Ever since I was in elementary school my family was afraid of me in the mornings. There was always an hour time frame where everyone knew to not to speak to me. I can count on my right hand how many times I woke up in the morning excited to be awake so early. Until October 14, when I started my Pilates Mat and Zumba classes at 5:45am. I was a little timid at first, so I knew I had to set myself up for success. Surprisingly, it has been so easy waking up at 4:40am using these 6 simple steps. They will make your early morning fitness ventures easy, breezy and beautiful.

1.) Pick up the house the night before

Waking up to a messy house is a recipe for disaster. Quickly picking up the house right before you go to bed makes a world of difference. Not only does a messy house make me cranky, but it makes me a hot mess trying to find my essentials before running out the door. Cleaning off the kitchen counters, picking up the bathroom, fold the throw blankets in the living room and throw the toys in a bin. BOOM! You just created a beautiful house to wake up too. If you’re anything like me you will be so tired while you’re picking up, you will wake up the next morning thinking the cleaning fairy visited your house!

2.) Set your alarm correctly

I have tried so many different alarms. The abrupt classic alarm noises, woke me up thinking there was a natural disaster and only made me more angry. I’ve tried peaceful chimes, which I slept through dreaming of angels. Until I changed my alarm to music! Get yourself in the gym mode with hearing your favorite song on your “workout” playlist. Wake up excited and pumped up to get your sweat on first thing in the morning! Be sure to mix it up every couple weeks to keep yourself amped up.

3.) Set your clothes out

The only regret I have in my life is never doing this simple step. Pick out your workout swag the night before. I am talking everything… Yoga pants, top, socks, hair tie, tennis shoes, coat and scarf. Waking up to everything folded, ready to wear, and perfectly displayed, feels like you hired a butler. Now you have one less step to do in your morning. Plus, your clothes are already out of the drawers. You HAVE to wear them or it would be a waste!

4.) Drink

Drink a huge glass of water first thing upon waking. It gets the juices flowing along with your metabolism! Also, you will be able to go a little bit harder at the gym not worrying about dehydration.

5.) Prepare to leave quickly

If you’re like me I always run a few swipes of mascara across my lashes before I step outside, so I keep mine right next to my toothbrush for quick access. Set your keys and purse in the same spot each time.  Now you can leave the house smoothly each morning without forgetting anything or locking yourself out of the house… Not that I have ever done that…

6.) Build a fit family

What I love most about working out first thing in the morning is the positive and encouraging family we have built. I enjoy getting to spend my mornings with some of my favorite people. Having a good time and laughing first thing in the morning makes our other daily obligations not so bad. Plus, you will hold each other accountable and stay on track together. It’s harder to stay snuggled up in bed knowing someone will ask you where you were!
