1.) Find a purpose

After taking a break from dancing for a professional ballet company I had been with for 9 years I went through a time of feeling I had little purpose. Until I made myself sit down and figure out what my ‘new’ purpose was. Life is ever changing, nothing stays constant. So dig down, deep down! Do you like the animals or the outdoors? Find what drives you and keeps that flame burning inside you. Is it volunteering or helping people? Is it physical fitness or cooking? What ever it may be… DO that! And do it daily.

2.)Wake up

Sleeping in may feel nice sometimes, but waking up early knowing you have a purpose is SO much more satisfying. Schedule a coffee date, enroll in a fitness class before work, throw a brunch event, or go to church! But find anything that gets you up and out of bed early that makes you excited and ready to conquer the day! For me, teaching fitness classes before the sun comes up keeps me motivated!

3.)Take 5-15 min of quiet-time

Not quiet-time on your ipad, phone or watching TV. Quality “me” time with no distractions. I take mine first thing in the morning. Not while I’m getting ready… Before all the chaos. I make myself a cup of tea and sit by our picture window. Counting my blessings and getting in touch with how I feel that day. I also take a bubble bath almost every night. An easy way to get away and have a few minutes of quite, relaxing, guilt-free, “me” time.

4.)Be thankful

The grass is greener where you water it. Use a journal to write down everything you’re thankful for. Each day you do this the list will continually get longer. Training your brain to be more optimistic! Happiness is contagious, so why not spread it like wildfire?!

5.)Find a hobby

Actually, find three! One that makes you money, one that keeps you in shape and one that allows you to be creative! Having hobbies not only make you feel you have more of a purpose but it is also a time to truly enjoy what you’re doing. You’re never too old to have fun, we desperately need that outlet in life!

6.) Love

Love is essential in a happy life. But first, you have to love yourself. If you do not love yourself, you are incapable of loving anyone or anything else. You are wonderful. Learn to love what makes you, YOU! Love your family deeply, love your job, love your house, love your town, love your spouse. Make love. Love life.

7.) Eat clean

Food can make or break anything. The way you see your body in the mirror usually has something to say for what you’re putting into it. I weigh the same as I did when I was eating less calories but more junk food. Although, I now see my reflection in a much more positive light. Don’t focus on how many calories, focus on ingredients. Focus in on if it is truly food grown from the dirt beneath us. After eating you should feel happy and satisfied, never guilty or sick!

8.) Exercise

Last, but definitely not least… Exercise! Get your heart pumping, move the blood through your body and clean your lungs out with deep cleansing breaths. Exercise makes you feel alive! Working out also improves overall health and fitness. It improves sleep and memory. Exercise promotes weight loss and prevents osteoporosis. Working out also releases serotonin, endorphins and dopamine. Endorphins make you feel exhilarated and happy. They help block any feelings of pain, so you can power through any discomfort caused by working out. This explains the “runner’s high”. Dopamine is a pleasure chemical. Dopamine plays a role in combating stress and depression. With so many benefits of exercise, why not do it everyday?!
